Getting ready for kindergarten

My daughter Ali is going to Kindergarten this fall in Wentzville. I am so excited and so is she. I have some ideas and suggestions for any parents who have a child going into kindergarten as I was a kindergarten teacher for 11 years.

My 4-year-old looked in the fish tank Monday night to find his fish dead. He's had other fish over the past year that we've had the tank; many of them died. He's never really cared before. But this is one that he'd named: Sword Apple (it was a pineapple swordtail). He cried for a whole hour. Bawling. Just saying Sword Apple over and over again. It completely broke my heart.
Eventually I calmed him down by suggesting we draw a picture of Sword Apple how we remember him. My fear: We have a 12-year-old dog that my son adores. He even sleeps with him. Should I start talking now about the dog's death? |
