The switch to full-day school
Posted by: Aisha on August 2, 2009 at 12:35AM CST
My preschooler will be starting full-day in the fall, as opposed to part-time/half-day last year. How will I know if this schedule is too much for a four-year-old? Do they start acting out or seem tired all the time? He seems to be looking forward to the new classroom, but I'm anxious about having him gone so much of the day.

It will probably take him a few weeks to get adjusted to a full day of school. Does he still nap? If so, he might be tired by the end of the school day if nap time isn't part of the school day. If after a few weeks he's not adjusted then you might need to consult with his teacher on things that can be done to help him. Is a half day an option? If so, would you be able to put him back in half day if he can't adjust to full day? If that's not an option then simply give him time to adjust.
