POST-DISPATCH JEFFERSON CITY BUREAU
U.S. Sen. Kit Bond, Missouri's senior senator, won't seek re-election in 2010. Bond made the announcement on the floor of the Missouri House in Jefferson City this morning. He spoke for about 10 minutes on the future of politics and just after 10:30, got to the headline. After a long pause when he collected himself, Bond said: "now for the tough part. ... I have decided my Senate career will end after my fourth term. "In 1973 I became Missouri's youngest governor," he said. "I do not intend to be Missouri's oldest senator."

So you've joined MySTLtoday. Now what? Today, I'm starting a series of entries about how to use parts of the site -- especially the basics of posting stories, photos and videos.
Let's start with stories. When you post a story, you are actually posting to your personal blog on STLtoday. You can start easily by clicking the "Post a Story" icon at the top of the MySTLtoday home page. We'll walk you through setting up your blog from there. But once you've started your blog, what then? Here's a few tips and tricks: Pick a theme. Is there a subject you're particularly interested in? St. Louis history? Religion? Pets? Pick a theme for your blog and write about it regularly. You might be the only expert on the subject! We have one blogger writing about her experiences with Parkinson's disease. Another writes about "The sevens" -- the seven best local bakeries, or the seven best sports teams.Try to write regularly. If you do, you'll generate an audience. I'll want to make sure to promote your blog around STLtoday and MySTLtoday if you're a regular! Not too much! Don't worry about writing too much or too little. Just write! If you post a few sentences regularly, that's better than posting nothing! Include links. If you're writing about bird-watching, post links to sites that you like, stories you've read about the subject. Links are a great resource for your readers. Write a good headline. Be descriptive. Give people a reason to click on your story. Use keywords that people will search for. If you're writing about the Cardinals, use names, for example. To get back to your blog, remember to click the "My Stuff" link at the top of every page on MySTLtoday. Then, look for the My Blogs link in the left column of the page. |
