Never over the years have I filled so fulfilled. Though yes I have Parkinson's Disease and yes I do have Acute RA, I have such an abundance of friends that I am so thankful for. In October of 2007 I logged on to Patientslikeme.com, Parkinson;s Group. I had never done anything like that before but God surely led me there because my life has completely changed as has the site for it. At that time there were only a handful of posters on the forum and only 267 members in all. Today the membership is up to 3700 and growing daily. we are totally public now and I am in the Parkinson Disease Foundation, Unity Walk, Parkinson Action Network and travel extensively doing actovist work and learning all I can. One thing we use to do was go to a chat room early in the morning and pretend we wwere in the coffee shop and discuss how we felt and the coming days events and often played around.....Somehow we had drifted away from this, thinking we were too busy and did have time for such sillyness until yesterday when I decided to start it up again. Tomight we meet at 10:30 Illinois time and spent two hours really having a blast and Parkinson's was not mentioned the whole time...great fun and lots of laughs both are needed in Parkinson's too thanks girls and guys love pokie

Just when I needed to be picked up and refurbished, along comes this awesome summer. Nothing like I have ever lived through in Illinois, but I am loving it. Some of my favorite things are really simple and one of them is feeling the breeze and watching the curtains billow through an open window; absence of heat and humidity, sunshine, fireworks and lunar eclipses.....all of which I have experienced quite happily this summer and the prediction is great for August also. How great it must be to be in the new stadium watching Albert in 70 degree weather. I am pretty home bound now but the idea is almost as good as the real thing. With all the rain and the size of weeds in the country, possibly no beauty would be found there but wrong. One particular patch in my yard is at least twelve feet tall. This is much to my kids dismay until yesterday when the Monarch Butterflies came in and were just solid on the tops. The power of the mind to find a better place in times of strife is huge and should be paid attention to by all. Even New York City is resting in Time Square on used lawn chairs....One of my favorite cities of all I have been to and they have learned (or are learning) to slow up, rest and watch the people around you......and it is free try it love pokie

I am forced, lately to sit in my recliner and stare into space wondering what will come with the next phone call or unexpected visitor. By far today and yesterday beat anything I could have dreamed as I nodded out and napped. You see my brother called yesterday from Denver. Colorado and said, " Sis, they have found me a liver and I am due for surgery tomorrow morning at 5AM. On the Fourth of July, not only the biggest holiday of the year, but my mom and dads 67th wedding anniversary. There is only my brother and I and my mom left in my immediate family. I was always his over protective big sis. Who often embarrassed him more than I knew. Just little things that as teens caused huge problems between us but melted away in later years and when I got Parkinson's Disease and started to travel and write we became very close. For many years, four or five, he has been on the transplant list and I really had given up hope and then this week he had four possibilities in three days and yesterday was a go. When I talked to him before surgery, he sounded better than he has for years....Very ready to start a new life! As of this evening. he has cleared the six to eight hour surgery and made it through recovery and is resting in his room. All of his numbers are increasing and looking good. It seems the live had attached to the skin and removal was very tricky and caused multiple areas for bleeding which may cause a second surgery tomorrow.
Ordinarily I would be in Denver by now, but as luck will have it I am medically grounded until at least the middle of next week so if you read this, could you say a small prayer for us....and remember this is still , by far the best country in the world and if you drove to see fire works or watched on television, was it not grand? Thanks for being here for me to vent love pokie ... (more) |
